Millennium Park in Chicago

Take a walk through Millennium Park and enjoy grand vistas of lush lawns and unique artwork. Admire the incredible architecture of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion as you stroll through the gardens. The park sits at the northern edge of Grant Park, between Columbus Drive and Michigan Avenue. After opening in 2004, the 24-acre green oasis is the main attraction of Chicago's front yard. Stop by and take a walk across a pedestrian bridge to view the skyline, or lose your visual balance within the reflection of the famous Cloud Gate sculpture.

The history behind "The Bean"?

Anish Kapoor, an Englishman, designed the massive "Bean" sculpture. Mr. Kapoor is said to have been inspired by the appearance of liquid mercury. Officially titled Cloud Gate, the proposed sculpture was selected during a design competition. The sculpture is made of over 160 stainless steel plates and has no visible seams. It was originally unveiled in 2004, but wasn't formally dedicated until 2006.

Are there events at the Millennium Park year round?

Yes, the Millennium Park features free events throughout the entire year. The summer months feature the Grant Park Orchestra and walking tours in the Lurie Gardens. The winter months feature concerts inside the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and an ice skating rink on the McCormick Tribune Plaza. There are a variety of family oriented events year round as well. Do I need a ticket for a free public event in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion?

No ticket is needed. Admission is free for seats in both the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the Great Lawn for events presented by the City of Chicago. For evening shows, the Pavilion opens one hour prior to the start of the concert.
